Command Tooling Systems has expanded its ThermoLock® Shrink Fit toolholder line. These toolholders - with Shrinker® Shrink Fit technology - are heated to load and unload the cutting tool.
Engineered to product the highest degree of balance, Command's ThermoLock toolholders provide improved performance at highest speeds and when machining extremely hard materials. Providing the most ideal TIR level and 360 degree concentric gripping power in toolholder design to date, these toolholders use no set screws or collets to lock the cutting tool into the holder. Rather, these ThermoLock holders are slightly undersized relative to the cutting tool being used. When placed in a special heating unit, the holder nose inside diameter expands to accept the cutting tool. When cooled, the holder nose inside diameter shrinks back to its original undersized dimension. The result is incredible gripping power over the full length of the holder/cutting tool interface. To remove the cutting tool, simply reverse the process.
Command Tooling Systems reports that these ThermoLock holders produce improved surface finish and more accurate hole size and roundness. They extend tool life because of their better balance and rigidity plus they minimize loss of accuracy across the holder/cutting tool interface. The result is ultimate toolholding rigidity for difficult-to-machine materials and for high rpm machining.
